El Viejo Wetlands is located in Filadelfia Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This magnificent 5,000-acre Private Wildlife Refuge and Sugar Farm will take you to the Palo Verde National Park along the Tempisque River.
One of the most important wetlands in the world. A protected and internationally recognized habitat for hosting the largest number of resident and migrant birds within the Central American region.
In this option you will enjoy a 2-hour Boat Tour of the Tempisque River, one of the most important wetlands in the world. Where you will have the pleasure of enjoying the sighting of resident and migratory bird species such as: roseate spoonbill heron, tiger heron, Jabiru Mycteria, needle duck, gray heron, cattle heron, red macaws, mammals such as howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and large crocodiles.
After doing this spectacular natural tour, we will go to have a delicious lunch of typical food in an important Casona, a majestic construction with more than 150 years of history, this same one is still a symbol of the golden days of great haciendas in Costa Rica.
Finally, we will return from this wonderful tour, we will make a small demonstration in one of the Archaeological cantons of Guanacaste, Filadelfia Park. Optionally, if the clients wish, we will make a stop for a souvenir.
This option is carried out in Hacienda El Viejo, here we can enjoy a Cultural tour. Here is shown the process of sugar cane and its derivatives, tasting of it. Small explanation about the strong economic activity in the north of the country since 1800’s.
Visit to the Casita del Sabanero, which recreates the lifestyle of the authentic Costa Rican Sabanero. Tasting of products made from corn in the wood-fired kitchen, tortillas made from corn, tanelas, rosquillas (corn snacks) and a delicious coffee.
Afterwards we will return to have an exquisite lunch of Typical food in the Casona.
Finally, we will make a short tour of one of the archaeological cantons of Guanacaste, Filadelfia Park. Optional, if the client wishes to make a souvenir stop. Thus we return to the starting point from the beginning.

Afterwards we will return to have an exquisite lunch of Typical food in the Casona. Then they will show us the process of sugar cane reproduction and its tasting. Visit to the Costa Rican Casita del Sabanero, and we finish with a tasting of snacks made from corn and in a wood stove.
